Het dagelijks beheer gebeurt door de sectorale normalisatie-operator Agoria ICT[1]. HL7 Belgium maakt deel uit van de Belgische eHealth-standaardisatiegroep die ook IHE Belgium herbergt[1]. Dat standaardisatiecomité staat open voor elke belanghebbende; deelname is gratis voor Agoria-leden (stand februari 2024)[2]. Europees is HL7 Belgium vertegenwoordigd in het technische coördinatieteam van HL7 Europe[3]. De voorzitters van de Europese affiliates of hun proxies zetelen in de European Advisory Council[3]; volgens de ledenlijst van die raad vertegenwoordigt José Costa Teixeira HL7 Belgium[3]. Of hij voorzitter of proxy is, volgt niet eenduidig uit die lijst. Bij HL7 Europe mogen enkel affiliates zoals HL7 Belgium officieel stemmen over Europese FHIR-IG's[4].

Werkgroepen. De werkgroepen richten zich op nieuwe standaarden en implementatiegidsen, vaak rond FHIR; de eerste startten in Q1 2020[1]. De wiki (stand januari 2025) lijst onder meer Referral Prescription, Medication, Laboratory, Infrastructure & Security, Patient Dossier, Core Profiles, Payment and Insurance, Population health, PSS, Patient Monitoring outcome en Patient Care[5]. De werkgroep Medication werd opgericht in maart 2020 na vragen rond e-voorschrift en Gedeeld medicatieschema[1]. De Core Profiles-werkgroep behandelt kernprofielen zoals BePatient en BeOrganization[6]. Iedereen kan op elk moment aansluiten[5].

Implementatiegidsen. HL7 Belgium-werkgroepen leveren FHIR-artefacten op basis van use cases en een datamodel[7]; elke IG wordt beheerd door precies één werkgroep[8]. Voorbeelden zijn het BE Medication-IG[9] en het Referral-IG van de werkgroep Referral prescription[10] (zie Belgische FHIR-implementatiegidsen, UHMEP en het digitaal verwijsvoorschrift (eReferral)). Een CareSet van BeSafeShare wordt pas als Belgisch FHIR-profiel gepubliceerd nadat ze op HL7 Belgium-bijeenkomsten is voorgelegd[11]. Communityspecificaties worden door HL7 Belgium onderhouden en gepubliceerd; federale profielen zoals BePatient worden door het eHealth-platform gepubliceerd[12][12]. De legenda van het IG-portaal van het eHealth-platform onderscheidt drie types: 'Build' voor IG's in ontwikkeling[13], 'Federal' voor IG's die het eHealth-platform publiceert en als federale artefacten gevalideerd zijn[13], en 'IG's Published by HL7Be'. Interpretatie: die laatste categorie is op 29 september 2026 leeg, want alle 18 IG's in de portaalconfiguratie en in het FHIR IG-register hebben het eHealth-platform als uitgever/autoriteit[13]; de enige IG met HL7 Belgium als uitgever is de CI-build Patient Monitoring Outcome[14]. Op 11 december 2024 legde HL7 Belgium regels vast voor het opsplitsen van Belgische IG's in aparte pakketten[8].

GitHub. De GitHub-organisatie hl7-be toonde op 26 september 2026 79 repositories[15]. Daar staat onder meer het Lab2Lab-testplan, op 23 januari 2026 toegevoegd aan hl7-be/lab (ontwerp)[16] (zie Elektronische laboaanvragen). Het VIDIS-project vroeg er in augustus 2026 een VIDIS-identifier verplicht te maken in de medicatieprofielen (in bespreking)[17].

Events en opleiding. De eerste BE FHIR-a-THON (januari 2024) was een gezamenlijk initiatief van onder meer FOD Volksgezondheid, RIZIV, eHealth-platform, Vitalink, Agoria en HL7 Belgium[2]. De eventpagina noemt 2 en 3 juni 2026 voor een volgende editie[18]. Volgens de wiki (stand januari 2025) was er tweemaal per jaar een FHIR-overzichtscursus[5].
